The K-OAr (CLARIN Knowledge Centre for Oral Archives) congratulates Dr Nicola Perencin (University of Padova) on the successful approval of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie project ClassicFolkIT, an interdisciplinary initiative combining Folklore Scholarship, Classical Studies, and Digital Humanities. The project seeks to develop and implement a new digital research protocol to identify and analyse international folktales with Greco-Latin correspondences circulating in Italy – an area central to classical civilisation that has not yet been systematically investigated from this comparative perspective. By integrating global and local approaches, the project will document regional variations in oral traditions and enable more rigorous textual comparisons between folklore and ancient literature.
A core component of ClassicFolkIT will be the creation of an open-access digital archive of Italian folktales with classical analogues. In this context, the K-OAr Centre will play a key role in supporting the digital dimension of the project, contributing its expertise in oral archive management, digital curation, and alignment with CLARIN standards and best practices.
During the secondment phase at Dublin City University, the structure of the digital archive will be designed; this phase is expected to benefit from the methodological and infrastructural framework represented by the K-OAr Centre. Overall, ClassicFolkIT is expected to have significant impact across Folklore Scholarship, Classical Studies, and Digital Humanities, while also reinforcing the European ecosystem of digitally accessible oral heritage.
