The Editorial Board of the Oral Archive Journal (OAr) is delighted to announce the publication of a new Call for Papers for its second issue, scheduled for publication in January 2026. The theme for this issue is: “Oral Archives: Lifecycle and Cross-Disciplinary Dimensions.”
The Oral Archive Journal, jointly published by USiena Press and Firenze University Press, fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and critical engagement with oral archives. It supports both traditional research contributions and data papers showcasing archival resources, adhering to a Diamond Open-Access model that promotes open scholarly collaboration.
This issue invites contributions exploring oral archives as research tools across disciplines, including linguistics, oral history, cultural anthropology, ethnomusicology, sociology, psychology, and more. Topics of interest span the entire lifecycle of oral archives:
- Production: Strategies for collecting oral data and establishing archives.
- Curation: Insights into specific archives and access methodologies.
- Preservation: Techniques for restoring analog media, digitization, and sustainable data storage.
- Use and Reuse: Research and creative applications, such as museum installations or soundwalks.
Additionally, cross-disciplinary issues such as speech transcription, speech technologies, legal frameworks, and ethical considerations are integral to the scope of this issue.
Submissions are welcome in English, Italian, or French, and should adhere to Chicago Style guidelines. Papers must include an abstract in English (max. 150 words) and five keywords.
The deadline for manuscript submissions is 31st March 2025.
